Jackie's apartment building was one of many in that section of the suburbs of Santa Barbara, California. There was a road going by in front, beyond that was a few cabins and a bit of a distance beyond that, the ocean could be seen. It was about 10am, the surfer dudes were already in full swing, catching waves and flirting with the local bikini clad women sunning themselves on the beach.

Jackie hadn't packed much, she probably wouldn't be gone long. She left a note for Shawn about how to take care of the cat, said goodbye to Remington, and pulled her little suitcase on its wheels out the door to lock up the apartment.
Now all she had to do was wait for her new friend to show up.

[And that, finally, draws his full attention. He crosses to the windows, pushing people out of the way without a notice. For the first time, his face openly displays wonderment.]

Oh! Don't wander...off... [her warning goes unheeded and she sighs, setting her stuff down next to a chair, taking a load off her feet...they have some time before their flight anyway]

[smiles at his wonderment at the planes, wondering herself what it would be like to see a plane for the first time]

[Finally, he speaks. He doesn't turn to look at her, but he inclines his head away from the view, just a little]

It is not the craft itself - fascinating though that is. It is the scale that astonishes me. The trials and tribulations of successfully launching one craft that complex is astounding...but look at them. Hundreds must arrive and depart every day, I am sure.

What a thing, this is.

[joins him at the window] Yup...I don't really have any concept of how long it took for them to get built but I'm sure it took forever to even invent an airplane. I mean, me seeing that is like you seeing a horse drawn cab where you come from...it's commonplace.

[over the PA system, their gate is now boarding]
[tugs at his sleeve] Com'n, don't want to be late.

[He turns, following after her, still peering at everything he can.]

It was theorized that this could be possible, although the commonality of it was never imagined in even the most far-flung of fictional works. People tend to forget that all marvels become commonplace, sooner or later.

[nods, agreeing] And we think flying cars would be a novel idea...who knows? Someday...

[gets in line with the other passengers, hands Sherlock his own ticket as the line moves along]
[hands her ticket to the lady tearing them, going through to the little tunnel that leads to the airplane door itself]

[And he follows behind, utterly ignoring the strange look the woman gives him as he hands her his ticket. He looks around, and smiles briefly]

Ah, you can tell that the process of air travel was pioneered by Americans - if it were a British invention I rather suspect there would be someone to take our bags as we boarded.

[amused at his deduction, he's probably right]

[walking up the tunnel, the sounds of the airplane's motor getting louder as they get closer]

[the stewardess greets them as they enter the airplane itself but brightens noticeably when seeing Jackie. the two girls hug and exchange pleasantries, obviously old friends]

[And he simply waits, to see what develops. He does, however, tip his hat to the other girl. Nothing to be lost by politeness, naturally]

took me awhile, sorry about that

[Jackie introduces Sherlock as "Mr. Holmes", thinking the name Sherlock Holmes might make her friend giggle, the friend's name being Sara]

Com'n, our seats are this way. [Jackie works her way down the narrow aisle, looking for the numbers on their tickets]

No worries :)

[He follows after her - and oddly enough a man with a swinging cane finds the lanes rather open]

[Once they reach the proper seats, he looks up as she stores the bags, putting his own next to hers. Then he sits down, hands resting on top of his cane]

Relatively efficient storage of passengers, though you will notice it is slightly less space than is comfortable for an individual.
